What is Monocoque body?
Conventionally, a spinning reel is generally supported both ends of a drive gear with a body and a body cover, and fix it with several screws. Aiming at higher accuracy and rigidity than this structure, it was the monocoque body that fixed the body by screwing a high precision plate directly into the body without wasting the body cover.
This increases the support accuracy of the gear, improves the rigidity and airtightness. Furthermore, it succeeded in expanding the size of the drive gear to the limit by making use of the space conventionally taken in the screw.
Monocoque body means MONO (one) - COQUE (shell). It is a completely new asymmetrical design symbolizing the toughness like a shellfish shell

DAIWA SALTIGA BJ Features
Given the popularity of saltwater fishing, sealing a reel is a major goal. No leakage means no corrosion, longer life and better performance. If saltwater penetrates a reel and dries, it crystallizes, and then erodes gears and bearings. In the past waterproof gaskets and “o rings’ prevented water intrusion, but they have the disadvantage of, producing friction and thus winding inertia.
In order to increase the durability of the reel, Daiwa had to make the waterproof structure an absolute priority. Through years of research and development, Daiwa found the solution - membrane of magnetic oil, which shuts out saltwater. By using magnetized oil in conjunction with magnets, the oil attaches itself to the metal surfaces to form a seal. Being magnetized this lubrication system avoids any friction, prevents dust or water intrusion, eliminating oil spray and improving reel life expectancy. We call it “Mag Seal”. You’ll call it magic and a transformation to long lasting, smooth rotary efficiency.
Magsealed debuted in 2010 Certate, cementing itself as the world’s most advanced spinning reel, this technology flowed on into Saltiga, Caldia and the previous model of Exist. But with the new 2015 Exist, Daiwa’s flagship reel features a Mag Seal line roller. Line roller bearings are one of the hardest wearing parts in a reel. They are constant working and received the harshest punishment of any part of a reel. The pressure of the line, continual water and salt impregnation destroys roller bearings quickly. Now with Magseal technology this is an issue of the past. Not content just with magsealing the rotor/anti-reverse system and line roller, the new Exist employs an all-new revolution in ultra smooth rotation and water sealing. Magsealed bearings are placed in key points in the reel to prevent water intrusion, increase rotation smoothness and increase part longevity. The new bearings are Magsealed, unlike the Magseal used in the rotor system the new bearings are a fully contained Magsealed bearing. These bearings are placed in the line roller system and the gear system so to prevent water and salt intrusion into these key bearings
ATD or Automatic Tournament Drag is a new introduction into the Daiwa spinning reels. The biggest issue with many drag systems is that they are not smooth at the beginning of the drag and do not adjust to suit line distance or a fish slowing down. ATD rectifies this issue. As an example ATD works like this, at the beginning of a strike the drag starts smoothly, then increase to its pre-set drag rating, as the fish swims further away and begins to slow down, line pressure increases thus increasing drag and line breakage is a high possibility. The ATD system recognizes this and automatically decreases the drag to compensate for the added pressure. As an example, if a drag is set at 7kg, at the beginning of the strike for a brief moment it will be 1kg then increases to 7kg, as the fish swims say to 250m (this equates to approx. 3kg of extra line drag, depending on line thickness) the drag will decrease to 4kg, thus avoiding line breakage.
“Zaion” is simply explained as a high-density carbon resin. Zaion is a new material, composed of carbon resin and long carbon fibres. This high-density material is light, strong and resists corrosion, used in many of Daiwa’s reels, it far exceeds the strength of magnesium in strength per unit weight comparison. Zaion transmits vibration through the reel more efficiently than ever before and it is lighter and stronger than a conventional reel made with similar resins or graphite’s.
The new 2015 Exist introduces innovations and unparalleled designs, with the combination of Magseal, Magseal Bearings, Air Rotor, ATD and Zaion making it Daiwa’s most sensitive technically advanced reel ever developed. You will feel more connected to lures, detect more bites and fight fish with ease….with Exist it is Technology to Feel
